NEWS UPDATE MAY 2008!

Friday’s ramble will take us to the slopes of Ben Gorm near Derrada, Newport which provides a superb mix of road, track and cross country with views of Furnace Lough and Lough Feeagh. We will be climbing to approx 400m and then heading west with Clew Bay and the islands laid beneath us, with a welcome finish at Nevin’s of Newfield for refreshments.

For Saturday’s ramble we will walk the Letterkeen Loop which is part of the Bangor Trail. This will be mostly off road on rough trails and cross country giving magnificent views of the Nephin Beg Range. Our highest point on the Loop is at 311m with spectacular views all around.

Important Information for Walkers

  1. Sturdy walking boots are essential for these rambles as ground may be wet underfoot in places. Walking poles may also be useful.
  2. It is important that walkers bring a packed lunch and drinks as the rambles are of approximately 5-6 hours in duration.
  3. Transport will be provided to and from the start / finish on these days so it important those intending to do either of these rambles book a place on the bus at registration on Wednesday or Thursday evening.
  4. Please note buses will leave at 08.30hrs sharp on each of these mornings. Transfer will take approx 35 minutes and rambles will commence at 09.30hrs.
  5. Of course we are hoping for sunny weather but walkers also will need to bring waterproofs / walking jackets / caps etc in the event of bad weather.
