Ireland West Airport Knock is located approximately 47kms from Castlebar and has daily flights from Dublin, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted and Manchester. Details of all these flight schedules are available on the airport website.

Dublin Airport is Ireland's largest with flights from almost everywhere! On arrival in Dublin you can travel the 245km west to Castlebar by air with Aer Arann or take the Airlink bus service to either Heuston Station for an onward train journey to Castlebar or to Busaras if you choose to travel by bus.

 

Free Rail Travel for the Over 66s!

 

All overseas visitors aged 66 or over, from anywhere in the world, will be able to benefit from unlimited travel on mainline, Dart and commuter trains in 2010.

 

To access visit the Failte Ireland / Discover Ireland website, and arrange for a Golden Trekker reservation. You will be asked for details such as your date of birth and passport or national identity card number. Your Golden Trekker reservation can then be used to book free Golden Trekker tickets when you arrive in Ireland.

 

Tickets can be purchased in blocks of four days, depending on the length of stay. A four-day unlimited ticket is normally worth €100.

 

Visitors who do not pre-book the reservation can also avail of the scheme when they arrive by calling to a Fáilte Ireland tourist information office.

Shannon Airport is located 162km south of Castlebar. There are no train links from Shannon Airport and transport to Castlebar is via a limited bus to Galway City and then onward to Castlebar.
